Issue: Can’t Access My Accounts On the Ledger Nano X

If you have not been using your Ledger Nano X device in a while it might be possible that a little upgrade is required to synchronize your accounts. This is a common issue many Ledger users described, and as such there are fixes. So, there’s no need to worry. You have not lost your funds, your crypto coins are safe.

Today, we will go through the steps to check the current firmware the Ledger Nano X is running on and if required, how to perform an update. Often, an update of the firmware does the trick. So, let’s begin.

Solution

  1. Identify if your Ledger Nano X is operating on an up to date firmware.

Step 1: Start Ledger Live on your computer.

Step 2: Locate the Manager section in the menubar, and click on ‘Manager’.

Step 3: Connect and unlock your device by entering your PIN code. If asked, allow the manager on your device.

Step 4: When you click on ‘Manger’ a new window appears and there you can see right at the top if there are any updates required. If an update is required it will look like this.

2. Update Ledger Nano X’s firmware.

Step 1: Click on the blue Update firmware button.

Step 2: Carefully read all instructions on the window that appears.

Step 3: If your recovery phrase is written down and accessible, tick the checkbox at the bottom and click on Continue. The update process normally does not require the recovery phrase, but you should have it available as a precaution.

Step 4: While the update will be downloaded, your device displays ‘Processing’ similar to the image below.

Step 5: Your device will then display Update firmware, the version number, and an Identifier.

  • Verify that the Identifier in Ledger Live matches the one on your Ledger Nano X.
  • Press both buttons to choose ‘Perform update’.
  • Enter your PIN to confirm. Your device will then restart and install the update.
  • If you have canceled the update, please reload the Manager to reinstall the applications.

Step 6: The update process will continue automatically.

  • Your Ledger Nano X displays Processing.
  • Never disconnect your device at this stage.

Step 7: Your device is successfully updated once Ledger Live displays Firmware updated and your Ledger Nano X asks for your PIN code.

Step 8: Your accounts will be reinstalled automatically after you have entered your PIN code. This may take several minutes, but you are set.

In cases when you are not able to see any of your accounts, especially after not using the Ledger device for a while it is likely that you only need to resynchronize your Ledger to get back to speed with your accounts.
